Nike Air Trainer TWII x SUPREME
Niiiiiiiice. I loved me some Bo Jackson’s when I was younger. I copped a pair of the Trainers when they were re-released about 5 years ago and wore those shoes to death.
With so many fugly colorways going on with shoes these days, it’s nice to see Supreme come out with something clean and nice (with a jacket to match! aawww) with these low-top version of the trainers. According to Highsnobiety they’ll be available only in Supreme stores, in 3 colors on November 8th.

The webbing and the colors are reminiscent of the Jordan IVs, the most beautiful sneaker eva. I give them a B+. Nice kicks.
The jacket is cool, too. I’ve always wanted to rock a letterman-style jacket like that, but I could never pull them off. I think I’m too small for them. I’d look like I was wearing my big brother’s clothes.
Btw… will this ever slow down, the whole sneaker thing? Freshnessmag.com and Highsnobiety have new colorway drops announced DAILY! I mean every DAY it seems Nike and others are dropping new shoes. That’s ridiculous!

New Freshjive - fresh as always at Reserve
Freshjive has been one of my favorite lines for about 17 years now, ever since I bought the original Tide tee in like ‘91 or something over at LA’s original streetwear spot, Funkeesentials.
I’ve always liked their jackets and hats. Clean and simple, but just funky enough to stand out from the crowd. Founder Rick Klotz (how much of the cut and sew he actually designs, I don’t know), knows what he’s doing.
See what I mean?
Word is this collection is available only at their LA store Reserve, which I am yet to actually go inside. Freshjive used to have a spot, years ago, in Santa Monica on Main Street. That shop closed down right before Freshive seemed disappear for a couple years. They’re back in full effect, though and rockin it hard.

Fairfax - LA’s streetwear Mecca
My wife and baby girl and I had a little time to kill today and we took a cruise over to Melrose and Fairfax where dunks reign supreme and if you ain’t got the sticker on your New Era, you best to get the fuck out.
Thanks to the vision of Eddie Cruz, who opened Supreme on Fairfax 2 or 3 years ago, the spot has blown up into what is undeniably the West Coast streetwear Mecca. Store front signs reading Alife, The Hundreds, Supreme, SLB, Flight Club LA, Hall of Fame (a shop of strictly fitted caps), Turntable Lab, Diamond Supply Co. and a rumored new edition of an LA arm of Huf, make this block and a half strip in the heart of LA’s Jewish neighborhood the undisputed go-to spot for bright graphic tees, hoodies, skateboards, Jordan IVs and all the other hot shit you be trying to get your hands on. The block is flooded with young people in dark denim, crisp Nikes, and crooked New Eras. Anywhere else and you might look cool in your fresh new gear. Here, you’re just another sneakerhead.
Every shop has it’s own look and it’s own vibe, some I feel, some I don’t. Supreme is obviously classic. Fresh decks and fresh gear.
While I was at Supreme today I ran into my boy Eric, the buyer at Backside in Burbank and their online store: droppingstyles.com which both carry CHILDREN.
Alife, I just don’t get. I know they’ve blown up on the east coast, but I just don’t see the Sesame Street face shirts selling very well. I mean, would you where one of those?
Alife did have some cool shoes, though. The solid color ones were nice. The store is one hallway with like, 10 foot bullet-proof glass walls on either side that the items are displayed behind.
Diamond is a clean, sleek, modern space. It’s nice, but they only have about 4 shirts and 3 decks in their store. I like it, but I don’t see how they’re staying in business.
Diamond:
The Hundreds store is small but they’ve got a nice selection of their stuff. If you’ve ever read their blog, I’m sure you’ve seen images of their store. It’s all black and clean.
A view from inside The Hundreds (image jacked from thehundreds.com):
The store that really stands out over there, though is SLB.
SLB is owned by legendary skateboarder Sal Barbier and carries a supply of Vans, Lee Jeans authentic line (which are dope and I really haven’t seen anywhere else), Clarks shoes (they had a cool pair of camouflage ones)

and some camping/hunting type jackets and Fedora hats. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill streetwear store. Solid, masculine stuff, more like an upscale and modernized Dogtown Z-Boys-style store. Part skater, part cholo, part tattoo artist.
So if you’ve never been to Fairfax between Beverly and Melrose, get your ass over there.
Original Fake X-collar jacket (and a shout to Alicia Keys)
First off, you’ve gotta be living in a cave to have not heard the new Alicia Keys single “No One.” Is it just me, or is she the straight up bomb? I don’t think there’s a better pop/r&b artist out there. They’ve been playing it every 20 minutes or so here in LA on KDAY, so I’m sure I’ll be sick of it soon. But until then, it’s the only song sung by a girl that I don’t mind getting caught singing along to in my phresh whip.
Anyway… on to the fashion!
I just spotted on Highsnobiety (my one stop source for blog stealing material) the new Original Fake X-collar jacket. Hotness:

Original Fake has been making a name with Kaws vinyl toy-inspired designs and clean lines. I’ve never been all into the vinyl toy scene, I got enough shit on my desk already, but I can’t deny there’s been some cool designs to come out of that scene.
Here, Original Fake takes a classic, clean, bomber-style jacket and throws a couple nice details on it, namely the Kaws-style X’s on the collar; they really make it stand out. Good work kids.

Another beautiful New Era - Leaders 1354 Chicago
I’ve been talking shit about all the New Eras coming out (maybe that’s just cus I’ve got the only line out there without one), and low and behold someone drops a hot one on us. Check this one out from Leaders 1354, a streetwear boutique in Chicago.

Beautiful, huh? I love it. I just peeped it on Highsnobiety. Especially dope for us left coasters.
I gotta say I’m glad it looks like the trend is moving back to simpler, cleaner designs. Streetwear was crazy for minute!
Asics finally enters the sneaker game.
I’ve been wearing Asics for years, for running that is. Their running shoes are top notch, ask any Sport Chalet employee. But they’ve never made a shoe I thought worthy of rocking beyond my 7 am jog. They had the Onitsuka Tiger line, but those were a little too indie rock and too narrow and flat; pants didn’t fall on them right.
Nike learned long ago to make their high-end athletic shoes look cool enough to wear on the street. Jordans and Air Max 95s have been on the courts, the tracks AND the dance floors for decades now. This obviously translates to more people buying the shoes y ma$ dinero. I mean what if only serious golfers wore the Tiger Woods hat? I don’t think Nike could afford to pay TW their share of the $87 million he makes a year. Companies like Asics however basically only sell their high-quality running shoes to people who actually want to RUN in them.
I think Asics is finally taking a cue from the dominant leader in the footwear industry. Enter the Asics Gel Lyte III.

According to Highsnobiety, Asics teamed up with Patta (a sneaker boutique in Amsterdam) and Alife to create these colorways on their kicks. I’m excited for them, a nice break from the Nike domination of the sneaker scene. I think I’ll be coppin’ me a pair. They seem to have a strange no-tongue design that I don’t think I’m feeling, though. I’ll have to see them in person.
Congratulations Asics! Go sell some shoes, goddamit.

Nike Talaria - Air Max 90 hybrid. Dope.
What can I say except when my 2 favorite Nikes of all time get mashed together? OMG, those are dope.

I love sneakers, but it’s actually pretty rare that I see a pair that I just gotta have. The original Talaria trail shoes in black/yellow and the Air Max 90s are 2 of those shoes I just had to have. This mash up is dope. I’m probably a week late on the jump on these, but they’re hot.

The Westside
So I’m headed out to Paliskates today. Any westside residents should definitely peep this store. Upper end skate lines like Howe, Nike SB and other stuff like Modern Amusement. A good store with a really good womens section.

Backside Records and Clothing
Backside Records in downtown Burbank recently started carrying CHILDREN. This place used to be a record store with a small apparell section, probably like 10 shirts. It’s turned into a really dope clothing store carrying a bunch of top streetwear names like Schmack, Triumvir3, FreshJive, OBEY and of course: CHILDREN.
Check them out:
Backside

Burbank, CA 91502
Peep their vinyl selection while you’re there too. They’ve always got good finds on used hip-hop.
